About us

A VR arena and racing floor at The Point Square

Beyond Reality is an ANVIO VR (opens in a new tab) franchise partner. The idea was fairly simple: put a headset on and walk around a real room with your friends. You can't do that at home, no matter what you spend.

Our story

How this started

We used to work together at Microsoft. We both had headsets at home, and we both got bored of them fairly quickly. Sitting in a chair waving controllers around is fine, but it's nothing like walking across a room with your friends and reacting to each other as you go.

That only works in a space built for it, which is why we went to ANVIO VR (opens in a new tab). ANVIO (opens in a new tab) have been building free-roam VR since 2016 and now run arenas in more than 40 cities. Their games are only licensed to partner venues, so you won't find them on a headset at home.

We put 8 racing rigs in alongside the arenas, so a group can split up, race each other for a while, and end up back in the lounge without leaving the building.

What we stand for

How we run the place

We over-spec the hardware

Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RTX 5070 Ti and a Meta Quest 3 on every station. It's more than the games strictly need. Stutter is the thing that makes people feel ill in VR, and we would rather spend the money than deal with that.

Made for groups

Free-roam VR is not much fun on your own. The arenas, the racing grid and the seating are all laid out for people who arrive together and want to stay together.

Safety and hygiene

Headsets and controllers get cleaned between every session, we hand out disposable face liners, and someone trained is on the floor for the whole of your booking.

Everyone eats

What we stock has vegetarian options and we can tell you what is in everything. Nobody in your group should have to sit it out or go somewhere else to eat.

FAQ

Questions we get asked a lot.

You wear a wireless headset and walk around a real room. There are no cables and you don't move with a thumbstick, you move by walking. Your friends are in the same room, and in the game they appear exactly where they actually are. The ANVIO VR (opens in a new tab) games we run are only licensed to venues, so you can't buy them for a headset at home.
